Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues. Conventional dentures are removable, however, there are different denture designs that rely on bonding or clasping onto teeth or dental implants. There are two types of dentures- full and partial! Full dentures are used to replace all missing teeth (top or bottom). Partial dentures are used to replace sections of or individual missing teeth.Later dentures from the 1850s on were made of Vulcanite. In the 20th century, acrylic resin and other are used.
There are immediate dentures that can be used when teeth are removed but they are only recommended for temporary use.. Unfortunately, bones and gums shrink over time, especially during the healing process. The disadvantage of the immediate dentures compared to conventional dentures is they require more adjustments during the healing process and again, are only really considered for temporary purposes until conventional denture is prepared.
