One Day Dental Crown

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a restorative cover that mimics the size and shape of your natural tooth. Crowns are often used to improve the look of your smile. These dental restorative covers are used when a tooth has become so decayed that it cannot be corrected with a composite filling. Crowns are used to restore broken teeth, discolored teeth, cracked teeth and misshapen teeth. Crowns cover the entire surface of the tooth, resulting in a more beautiful smile.

The dentist will create a custom crown that blends seamlessly with your other teeth to create a look that is completely naturally. Many dentists use a cerac machine to scan the mouth for impressions. This means no gooey materials are used for impressions! The dentist may be able to create a crown in their office and place it on your tooth on the same day. The dentist will explain how you can protect your crown and your natural teeth with good hygiene practices, such as flossing and brushing your teeth and using a mouthwash, at least, two times a day.

How Long Does it Take the Dentist to Create a Crown?

It takes approximately an hour to manufacture a custom crown once the scans are completed. After the crown is manufactured, you will return to your dentist's office, usually on the same day, to have the crown permanently cemented into your mouth.

There are several things you can do to help prevent damage to your new crown. Avoid chewing hard food items, such as ice, and wear a mouth guard to help stop you from grinding your teeth. The dentist will recommend that you floss and brush your teeth, at least, two times a day to help remove food particles and prevent decay and plaque buildup. The dentist will go over everything you need to know about how to care for your dental crown. You will be given an opportunity to ask the dentist any questions about your dental work. Additionally, should you have questions in the future, contact our office.
