Root canals are necessary when decay reaches down into the nerve of your tooth and causes infection. If you have a tooth that is cracked or chipped, and is causing you pain, you may need to visit the dentist to see if a root canal is the best option for you in order to restore your tooth. Dr. Phillip Greer at Sweetwater Dentistry, located in Fairhope, Alabama performs root canals. Over the years, many people have been nervous when they hear the term root canal. Root canal procedures used to take a long time and the process used to take a few weeks to complete, with the root canal itself and then getting the new crown. At Sweetwater Dentistry, we have up to date dental technology that allows Dr. Greer to perform Root Canals and have your crown made and permanently cemented into your mouth all in one day! Here's how it works:
The first step is to get your tooth numb. Then, the dentist will remove the decay in the tooth, and open up the canals. Once he has clear vision of the canals, Dr. Greer will then use different sizes, starting with the smallest, of canal files to remove the nerve of your tooth. Once that has been done, sodium hypocholorite will be used to disinfect the canals. After that, the canals are filled with a material known as gutta percha. A build up material is then placed to build the tooth back up in order for your crown to be placed on your tooth. After that we will scan your tooth as means to create your new crown in our office. It takes about one hour per crown to fabricate in office. If you have any questions about root canals, or would like more information, call our office at 251-550-7770.
