Fluoride as an Adult
Everyone loves to save money. And you might just save some money on dental treatment costs if you turn on your tap water and drink! As long as your water contains optimal levels of fluoride, it’s safe, no matter what your age!
According to researchers at the Indiana University School of Dentistry in Indianapolis, they studied patients of all ages who were members of a dental health maintenance organization and had access to dental care through their insurance coverage. Some people lived in communities with an optimally fluoridated public water system; others, did not.
These researchers found that patients that had access to fluoridated water had fewer dental restorations and lower dental care costs in a 5 year period mark. Who benefited the most? Adults!
Often times the focus of research on community water fluoridation has been on children. There is quite a bit less research on adults, and even less on elderly adults. We keep our teeth through adulthood and into our older years, so dental health needs to be studied through all decades of life. Dental Cleaning Daphne AL
According to the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, around 67% of the United States population receives water from a public water supply that contains optimal fluoride levels for preventing decay.
Having community water fluoridation is a great public health investment for people of all ages.
If you are unsure if your water is fluoridated, contact your local water supplier or the local/county/state health department. Dental Cleaning Daphne AL
