After braces or Invisalign, you may find you have some questions about caring for your teeth. Here are some common questions and answers. #downbythebay
Do I have to Wear a Retainer?
Yes! This is part of the package! Once braces are taken off, the teeth will be loose and unsteady in their new place. The job of the retainer is to hold them in place. You do not want the work of the braces to be undone! How long a retainer has to be worn depends on a few factors. Some people only need a retainer for a few years, other’s may need their retainer for the rest of their life. The retainer might be a pain or might be embarrassing for a child, it’s important to remind him or her that it is an essential part of the process. Wearing them will make it less likely that your child will need braces a second time. Kid Friendly Dentist Daphne AL
How do I care for my teeth after braces?
The teeth aren’t invincible after the braces are removed. You need to go to your regular dentist and keep up with a good oral care routine at home. The teeth and gums need to be kept healthy. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Flossing once a day is also a must. It will remove bits of food that get stuck between the teeth that the toothbrush can’t reach. #sweetwaterdentist
Make sure you schedule regular cleanings and checkups twice a year after the braces come off. Regular check-ins with your orthodontist will need to happen as well. The orthodontist will be able to tell if the retainer is working or if it needs adjustment. Kid Friendly Dentist Daphne AL
