Unhealthy Gums Can Cause Bad Breath

You are not immune to stinky breath.  Everyone experiences it.  The way to rid it usually will be brushing, flossing, and brushing your tongue.  But what od you do if that doesn’t help?  Well, this could be a sign of advanced gum disease.  So make sure you talk to your dentist before this condition ruins your healthy teeth.

Usually, the biggest bad-breath culprit is what you are eating.  Onions, garlic and other pungent spices will produce a mouth odor for hours after consumption.  Also, if you have diabetes and it is not controlled, you eat a high protein diet, or suffer from alcoholism, you will have breath that has a sweet/fruity odor.  This is a metabolic condition called ketoacidosis.

Swollen Red Gums? Here's What They Mean   Robertsdale Alabama Cosmetic Dentist

You may think you have the healthiest mouth and teeth, but if you have swollen gums, this is a sign of gum disease.  Swollen gums absolutely mean you need to have a trip to the dentist.  Your dentist can tell you right away if you are battling gum disease. Want to check to see if you have it yourself?  Dry your gums with a napkin and look in the mirror.  The surface of the gum that is close to the teeth should appear pebbled like a basketball, not smooth and shiny.  Swollen gums may not bother you, but they will bleed during brushing and flossing.

Along with swelling, red gums can also mean you are battling gum disease.  Most light and dark skinned people will naturally have pink gums.  Some people from the Mediterranean and those who are African descent may have dark gums. Robertsdale Alabama Cosmetic Dentist
