If you have a tooth that has been cracked or chipped, and you're looking for a way to have it fixed, look no further than Dr. Phillip Greer at Sweet Water Dentistry, located on scenic 98 in Fairhope, AL. Dr. Greer offers in house, same day, crowns that are made of full, durable porcelain. A crown is a tooth shaped cover or often called "cap" that is placed on a tooth to restore it back to the natural way it looked before it was damaged.
Typically, crowns are used to restore teeth that have been badly damaged by decay, and aren't able to be fixed with just a simple filling. Not only are dental crowns good for fixing chipped or broken teeth, dental crowns can also be used to restore teeth that are discolored or oddly shaped. You get to choose the shade of porcelain material that you feel best fits the color of your teeth, or you can even get a shade whiter if you are looking to replace more than one tooth! There are only a few steps in the crown procedure. First, Dr. Greer will remove any decay, and will take away most of the enamel of the tooth so that there is a foundation for the crown to seat. Once that prep work has been done, a digital scan will be taken. This allows Dr. Greer to design and fabricate the crown. It typically takes about an hour (per crown) to fabricate the crown and have it ready to cement into the mouth. Once the crown has been made, you will return to our office and have it permanently cemented on. Dr. Greer will then check your bite to make sure that everything lines up perfectly, and will make any adjustments necessary. If you have any questions about dental crowns, or would like to know more information, please don't hesitate to call us at Sweet Water Dentistry today!
