Do you have a tooth that needs to be extracted? If the answer is yes, you've come to the right place! Dr. Philip Greer of Sweetwater Dentistry performs tooth extractions at his dental office, Sweetwater Dentistry, which is located in Fairhope, Alabama. There are a few different reasons why a tooth would need to be extracted! Sometimes, people are just born with too many teeth, and that can cause crowded teeth which can lead to decay. Deep decay is also another reason for extraction. Sometimes a tooth is decayed so badly that it cannot be saved with any form of dental restoration. If you chip or break a tooth down too far, that will also call for an extraction. Visit our website for more information about our practice and the services we offer here at Sweetwater Dentistry.
There are two different kinds of extractions. There are simple extractions and there are simple extractions. With a simple extraction, the doctor will only have to use forceps to pull the tooth out. With a surgical extraction, the dentist will have to use his hand piece in order to cut the tooth into quarters and then use and instrument called an elevator to elevate the tooth out of the gums and then use the forceps to pull it out. A surgical extraction is only necessary if the dentist cannot simply pull the tooth out, if the roots are curved or it is too impacted. With either extraction, you will need to be numbed. If you have any anxiety about dental extractions, you can request nitrous oxide which helps with dental anxiety.
